Eye Open "20th Anniversary" Recap 2016

A beautiful morning greeted a record 112 golfers at the Golf Club at Bear Dance in Larkspur, Colorado on June 22, 2016.  Dr. Robert King and Children's Eye Physicians hosted a burrito breakfast to help get the day off to a great start! Thanks to Dr. Mark Danzo & the 20/20 Institute, for providing beverages from the Bear Dance beverage cart.

Dr. Jim Barad with teamed up with the SEE THE FUTURE Fund to  provide a larger event which included high school golfers.  Individuals and businesses sponsored high school players and coaches from up and down the Front Range of Colorado.  The inaugural "Students for Students" Challenge provided new excitement and awareness of visual impairment.

Mr. Chase Riley, one of the eight SEE THE FUTURE 2016 recipients, was part of the Eye Open this year and graciously greeted all the golfers on hole #2.  Thank you Chase!

Here are the results of the 20th Annual Eye Open:

The Optic Cup / Optic Bear Shootout

All teams played for the coveted Optic Cup.  One low handicap foursome played their own ball and the lowest score was recorded. They competed against all the other "mixed' handicapped" teams who played a team scramble and had the benefit of purchasing (for a donation to the STF Fund) mulligans and a 300 yard drive. The quest for the Cup and the Bear was on!

The Pasch Optical team of  Mr. Bob Joseph, Mr. David Babbit, Mr. Dave Moores & Mr. Brennan McMannis shot a 14 under 58 to claim the Cup.

The Optic Bear

The  Aurora Vision Center team of  Dr. Lee Graf, Mr. Rolf Sellmann, Dr. Matt Webb & Mr. Mark Maquire shot a 10 under par 62 to capture the equally impressive, but much cuter, Optic Bear.

Students for Students Challenge

The  inaugural  Students for Students Challenge featured 12 teams from Colorado's front range.  Each team consisted of 3 high school golfers and 1 coach.

The team from Regis Jesuit High School blistered tthe Bear Dance course shooting a 15 under 57 edging out the  2nd place team from Arvadda West (11 under 61) and 3rd place winners Palmer Ridge #1 (10 under 62).

Special thanks to all students and coaches for being a part of the Eye Open!

The 19th Hole
